Seven months ago, Christian Virtual School didn’t exist. Fast forward through a mountain of prayers, paperwork, and preparation and we opened our [virtual] doors to our very first students on September 8th. Then, on November 12th, we became recognized by the Ministry of Education as a school that has the authority to grant credits toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. We have grown from a subtle calling to a team of nearly 20 staff members, educators, and volunteers, all passionate about creating alternative education opportunities for families across the globe.

Our guiding question throughout this process has been “what does a world look like where everyone has access to exceptional Christian education?” What does it look like if we can tear down barriers like finances, geography, and physical abilities? What does it look like if we can connect teachers and students from all over the world to not only inspire but also equip students to live a life of purpose as part of God’s plan?

It looks pretty incredible.

So that is what we are working towards. Thanks to the support of Virtual High School and Bayfield Design we have been able to harness decades of experience in online education to begin offering courses to our students. Our work has been devoted to creating courses and processes that are firmly rooted in a Christian perspective. In English class, students are using Psalms to study poetry. In Mathematics, students are seeing connections between the laws and order present in our world and the God that created that order. As a Christian school, we can teach courses in Health that address controversial topics with a completely different perspective. All the while, we are utilizing the online environment to allow anyone to access this education, from anywhere, at any time.

Although there is still a lot of work to do, we are so excited to continue building on this opportunity given us to us. We have launched this blog to keep you up to date with the path God is guiding us along, to highlight our exceptional educators, and to announce any new partnerships, courses, and features. We look forward to connecting with you on this new platform.

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” Mark 10:27 (NIV)
