Literacy Requirement

In addition to the 30 credits and community involvement hours, students must meet the provincial secondary school literacy requirement. The requirement is based on the expectations for reading and writing throughout the Ontario curriculum up to and including Grade 9. This requirement can be satisfied by writing the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test, which is delivered once per year and is typically written in Grade 10. The test is scheduled and administered through the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO).

Eligible Christian Virtual School students whose Ontario Student Record is held at CVS, will have the opportunity to write the OSSLT. Students who do not successfully complete the OSSLT will have the opportunity to write the test again in subsequent years.

Students who have been eligible to write the OSSLT at least twice and who have been unsuccessful at least once are eligible to take the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OSSLC). The CVS Principal will determine student eligibility to enroll in the OSSLC.

Further details will be released regarding the 2023-2024 administration of the OSSLT. Questions related to the literacy requirement can be directed to guidance@christianvirtualschool.com.
