Prepare for Grade 9

As you finish Elementary school, it’s time to start thinking about preparing for the transition to High School! In Grade 9, you will start earning credits toward your Ontario Secondary School Diploma. You can learn more about next year on our Grade 9 page.

As you think about preparing, however, there are a few things you can do. First, you can take one of our preparation courses. They are short, two-week courses that are built to help you master the essential skills you need to be successful in your first high school courses. Second, if you’re finished Grade 8, you can start earning your community involvement hours – fun! Lastly, if you want to get started on earning credits early, you could consider our Reach Ahead program to take one or two Grade 9 courses in the summer.

Frequently Asked Questions

The cost of a preparation course is $50. Although, if you are already preregistered for the Full Time Grade 9 program, it is free.

No, there are no teachers assigned to the preparation courses. They are mastery style courses that take you through important lessons, provide unlimited practice and feedback, and provide a quiz at the end of each day for you to test your skills. You must pass this quiz with a mark of at least 60% to move on to the next lesson. But don’t worry! You can take the quizzes as many times as you need.

The FSF1D course requires at least 600 hours of French instruction. We do offer an FSF1O course that does not have this same prerequisite, and is meant for students who need to meet the requirement of earning one French credit for their diploma, but who do not want to continue studying French. It does not count as a prerequisite for Grade 10 French. If you’d like to take FSF1D, but do not have the 600 hours, we suggest that you contact our Guidance Department. We do have Elementary level French courses that you can register for at any time to support you in reaching the 600 hours. Each course is built to represent 120 hours of instruction.

Registration for preparation courses is open year round. Feel free to register at anytime. However, remember that if you are already preregistered for the Full Time Grade 9 Program, enrollment in these courses is free. Please contact the Administration Team if you’d like to begin the course.
